I hand make goods from traditionally tanned leather, not the modern type which is chemically treated, sprayed and rolled to a uniform product, but from leather that bears the inconsistencies and variations of the hide that it was made from; leather with soul. I pick up a piece of paper, draw a design and decoration, cut the leather from a hide and then hammer in my design before hand stitching and finishing the item I am making. I also repair leather items, but not those made of mass produced leather, such as clothes and furniture.
I have just purchased 2 English Saddles that are badly worn. Why? Well,I am in the process of taking them apart to see how they were made. Hopefiully during the process I will learn enough to repair and refurbish them, eventually selling them on. I will be posting the results on Youtube, provided I don't make a pigs ear of it.
